March 1, 2000 - Tethering the new toy

A test inflation of the new balloon

[Click on thumbnails to see full size pictures]
This morning we're test-inflating and checking out the new (used) balloon, a Cameron V-77, at 77,000 cubic feet. The venue is Robert Zirpolo's back yard in Cheshire, CT. This is how the balloon will look in flight.

I found the first two pictures on Al Dashevsky's web site. [Al is a balloonist from New Jersey, and is the webmaster for GEBA, the Great Eastern Balloon Association.] They're shots of the field at the Quick Check New Jersey Festival of Ballooning in Readington NJ last year. Recognize any familiar balloons?

The third shot is from the same festival, but in 1998.

Every attentive pilot knows to look up when he's burning! Santo, Jim and Robert on board.
How many landings was that? OK, we're all current...!
Look out for Robert's van!!!
